Chapter 1: The Glow in the Dark

Chapter 1: The Glow in the Dark

Caprina's wings hummed as she leaned over her latest experiment. The midnight flowers she'd collected under the full moon had produced something extraordinary—honey that glowed with silvery-blue light, pulsing like captured starlight.

"Remarkable!" She adjusted her bubble helmet and peered closer, her antennae twitching with excitement. The substance wasn't just luminous; it sparkled with tiny crystalline formations that shifted and swirled.

She bottled three jars and placed them on her workshop shelf, beside rows of more conventional honey varieties. Her miniature welding torch flickered as she sealed the containers with specialized wax.

That night, the glow seeped through cracks in her tree-hollow laboratory. Within hours, moths clustered against her windows, their wings beating frantically. A family of possums pressed their noses to her door. Fireflies gathered in confused swarms, their own lights flickering in response to the mysterious luminescence.

Caprina buzzed anxiously, shooing creatures away with her pollen brush. But as dawn approached, something worse arrived—a sleek corporate drone, marked with the logo of Buzz-Corp Industries, hovering outside her workshop. Its red scanning light swept across her windows.

Her antennae drooped. Word had spread impossibly fast. By noon, three more drones circled her tree, and the nocturnal creatures refused to leave. Her independence—her carefully guarded privacy—crumbled around her as cameras clicked and whirred.
