Caprina's Candied Nectar Christmas Surprise
Chapter 1: When the Lights Went Dark

Caprina's antennae twitched as she stirred a bubbling vat of cranberry-blossom honey, the sweet steam curling through her small brewery. Outside the frost-covered windows, neon signs blazed across the Industrial Bloom District, casting rainbow reflections on the chrome buildings. Christmas Eve had arrived, and her special holiday blend needed just three more minutes.
Her wings buzzed with excitement as she checked the temperature gauge on her tool belt. Tonight, the Grand Christmas Festival would light up Central Plaza with millions of bulbs, holographic snowflakes, and her honey-glazed treats at every vendor stall.
Then everything went black.
The vat's heating coil died. The lights flickered once and vanished. Through the window, Caprina watched the neon signs sputter and fade like dying stars. The entire city plunged into darkness.
She scrambled to her rooftop antenna, adjusting the dials with her chitinous fingers. The emergency broadcast crackled to life: "Catastrophic power grid failure... repairs will take days... all Christmas celebrations cancelled..."
Caprina's amber eyes reflected the distant emergency lights. Below, she spotted families of beetles and butterflies trudging home, their holiday decorations useless without power. A young dragonfly nymph pressed his face against a toy shop window, his transparent wings drooping.
Her tool belt suddenly felt very light. What good were welding torches and electric mixers when the whole city had gone dark?
