The Waiting Room Jitters

The Waiting Room Jitters

Lulu sat on the crinkly paper of the exam table, their fluffy tail curling gently upward and brushing against the cold wall. The clinic smelled like rubbing alcohol and mint. Lulu looked down at their tiny white paw mittens, focusing on the pink toe beans to keep their mind off the wait. Beside them sat Toby, a neighborhood boy from the cottage garden where Lulu grew up. Toby swung his legs, looking just as nervous about his own upcoming turn. Lulu nudged Toby's shoulder, offering a soft, gentle purr to comfort him, though Lulu's own sparkly pink eyes were wide with worry. The doorknob clicked. Dr. Barnaby, a tall golden retriever wearing a stethoscope, stepped inside. "Good morning, my brave friends!" he boomed cheerfully, adjusting his spectacles. He carried a small silver tray. Lulu's pink ears flattened back. Lulu squeezes her favorite teddy bear tight as the doctor walks into the room with a shiny needle. The crinkly paper beneath Lulu tore loudly as they scrambled backward against the wall, the tiny white bell on their pastel pink bow jingling in pure panic. The quiet, safe morning was completely gone.
