Chapter 1: The Disappearing Petals

Chapter 1: The Disappearing Petals

Brach hummed softly as he watered the daisies in his meadow garden. His long neck swayed gently, bringing him closer to each flower bed. The daisy chain garland around his neck—the one his grandmother had woven for him when he was very small—bounced lightly with each step.

"Oh!" Brach stopped mid-hum. A white petal drifted past his warm brown eyes and landed on his brown gardening apron. He glanced down at his beloved garland. Three daisies had lost petals, leaving gaps in the beautiful pattern.

Brach's tail drooped. He'd worn this garland every day since moving to the garden. It reminded him of home and family.

"Brach! Brach!" Pip the butterfly spiraled down, her purple and gold wings catching the sunlight. "Your petals are everywhere! I saw them by the vegetable patch, near the roses, even at the forest edge!"

Brach's eyes widened. "The forest edge? But I haven't been there in days." He touched the garland carefully. More petals loosened at his gentle touch.

"Something very strange is happening," Pip said, landing on his spotted shoulder. "And they're still moving!"
