Chapter 1: The Trembling Shadow

Chapter 1: The Trembling Shadow

Hunny bounded through the classroom doorway, her bright yellow fur catching the morning sunlight streaming through the tall windows. Her tail wagged in wide arcs as she surveyed the colorful space, where students gathered in clusters, chattering about summer adventures.

"Welcome, everyone!" called Mrs. Finch, the teacher. "Let's gather in our circle for introductions."

Hunny trotted to the circle, her black eyes scanning each new face with curiosity. Her small nose twitched with excitement at all the new scents. Then she spotted movement near the bookshelf—a small gray rabbit pressed against the wall, his long ears flat against his head.

"Come join us, Pip," Mrs. Finch encouraged gently.

The rabbit's pink eyes widened with panic. He shrank further into the shadows.

Hunny watched as Mrs. Finch approached Pip, speaking softly. The rabbit's whole body trembled. When it was time for introductions, Pip refused to emerge. Other students whispered and exchanged glances.

"Perhaps he needs time," Mrs. Finch sighed, returning to the circle.

During the first activity, Hunny noticed Pip remained by the bookshelf. She padded closer, her pink lips curving into a friendly smile. But Pip turned away, his fluffy tail twitching nervously.

At recess, Hunny watched from the playground as Pip sat alone inside, staring out the window. A colorful poster on the wall behind him showed friends holding hands—a message about cooperation from last year's class.
