Chapter 1: The Empty Corner

Chapter 1: The Empty Corner

Bobby rolled through the morning market, leaving tiny marinara dots on the cobblestones. His basil leaf hat tilted cheerfully as he waved to the vendor selling fresh bread. Everything seemed normal, except for the aching hollow in his chest.

Three days ago, his best friend Linguini—a long, graceful pasta noodle with the kindest heart Bobby had ever known—had vanished. No goodbye. No note. Just an empty corner where they used to meet every sunrise to plan their day's adventures.

Bobby's large brown eyes scanned the familiar spots: the fountain where they'd helped a lost kitten, the bench where they'd shared stories with lonely elders. His stubby legs carried him in worried circles, a habit he couldn't control when anxious.

"Linguini always said goodbye," Bobby whispered to himself, his small curved smile drooping. "Even when we disagreed about which alley to explore. Why would he leave without a word?"

A thin shadow fell across his path. Prosciutto, the elegant slice of cured ham, draped himself artistically over a nearby crate. His marbled patterns caught the morning light.

"Searching won't bring answers, little meatball," Prosciutto said, his voice like rustling parchment. "But perhaps... looking might."

Before Bobby could ask what that meant, Prosciutto slid a small envelope toward him. Bobby's name was written in Linguini's familiar looping handwriting.

Inside was a hand-drawn map with a single word: "Remember."

Bobby's round body trembled. Remember what?
