Uno Discovers Earth's Invisible Anchor
Chapter 1: The Falling Question

Uno's translucent fingers caught the sunlight streaming through the library windows, casting rainbow patterns across the science section floor as they reached for a book on the highest shelf. Their hover-boots sparked—once, twice—then died completely.
"Oh no, not again!" Uno tumbled downward, arms windmilling, lab coat pockets spilling circuit boards and glowing vials. They landed with an undignified thump.
Ms. Rodriguez rushed over, her beaded glasses chain swinging. "Uno! Are you alright, sweetie?"
"Perfectly fine!" Uno bounced up, their prism-like body shimmering from blue to excited purple. "But Ms. Rodriguez, why does everything on Earth fall DOWN? On my home planet Crystallis, our magnetic core pulls at different angles depending on where you stand. Sometimes things fall sideways! Sometimes up!"
Three children nearby giggled. A boy with freckles called out, "Things don't fall UP! That's impossible!"
Uno's amber eyes glowed brighter. "But WHY? What makes Earth so stubbornly downward?" They pulled out a cracked monocle, peering at the fallen book. "I must investigate!"
Ms. Rodriguez smiled warmly. "That's called gravity, Uno. It's an invisible force—"
"Invisible?" Uno interrupted, already pacing rapidly. "No no no, that won't do! How can I study something I can't see? How can I explain it? What if—" They gasped. "What if I could MAKE it visible?"
The freckled boy crossed his arms. "You can't make up invisible stuff just because you're an alien."
Uno's form flickered orange—their determined color. "Then I'll prove it! I'll build a device that shows everyone exactly how gravity works!"
But as Uno reached into their pockets for tools, they realized their experimental gravity-mapper was still back at the greenhouse—and it only worked with Crystallis technology, not Earth materials.
