Fixing The Broken Bird House Party
The Wobbly Birdhouse
Jana sat by the frosty window, her long, straight dark brown hair falling past her shoulders as she sketched in her small notebook. She was making a list of her neighbor Mr. Henderson's favorite tea flavors. Outside, the world was changing. The autumn leaves were all gone, and the air was freezing cold. "Winter is here," her grandmother had told her that morning, explaining how the Earth tilts away from the sun, making the days shorter and colder. Jana's warm brown eyes scanned the yard. Suddenly, a fierce, icy wind howled through the bare branches of the great oak tree. A tiny wooden birdhouse, home to a family of chickadees, wobbled violently. The nail holding it had rusted, and the wood was splintering. Another gust of wind hit, and the birdhouse slipped, dangling by a single frozen thread of rope. The little birds chirped in panic as icy sleet began to fall. The storm had arrived, and the chickadees were about to lose their home.
