Amazing Football Skills & Tricks
Amazing Football Skills & Tricks
Hello, super listeners! Welcome to another exciting episode of Kid-Cast! I'm your host, Chloe, and today we are diving into the super cool, action-packed world of football! Some of you might call it soccer, but whatever name you use, it is the most popular sport in the whole wide world! Today, we have a very special guest, Stefany, who is a total football expert. Welcome, Stefany!
Hi Chloe! And hello to all the amazing kids listening out there! I am so excited to be here on Kid-Cast today. Football is my absolute favorite sport because it is filled with fast running, high jumps, and tricks that look like actual magic. I can't wait to share some mind-blowing secrets with you today!
Magic tricks? Oh, you know I love magic! Okay, let's start with something fast. I heard a rumor that some football players can kick a ball so hard that it travels faster than a car driving on the highway. Is that actually true, or is it just a myth?
It is absolutely true, Chloe! The strongest, most powerful professional players can kick a football at speeds of over one hundred miles per hour! Think about when you're riding in a car on the highway, watching the trees zoom by. That ball is flying even faster than that! It's like a rocket ship taking off!
Whoa, a rocket ship! That is lightning fast! Zoom! Imagine trying to catch a rocket ball! But what about when they are running with the ball at their feet? They must be super speedy too, right?
Oh, they are incredibly fast! The speediest players in professional football can run at twenty-two miles per hour while still keeping the ball perfectly under control. To give you an idea, that is almost as fast as a house cat sprinting, or even a little scooter zooming down the sidewalk! And they are doing it while dodging other players!
A house cat in soccer cleats! I love that image. But wait, how do they keep the ball so close to them while running that fast? When I run, the ball always rolls away from me into the bushes!
Haha, that happens to everyone at first! That special skill is called dribbling. Some players are so good at dribbling that they can run with the ball practically glued to their feet, dodging and weaving past five or six defenders at the same time. It's like they're playing a giant game of tag, but they are too quick to ever get tagged!
That sounds like a real-life superhero power! And speaking of superpowers, I heard some players can make the ball bend and curve through the air. How do they do that? Is there a secret magnet inside the ball?
No magnets, I promise! It is all about the science of spin. When a player kicks the ball in a very special way on the side, they make it spin super fast, just like a spinning top toy. As the ball flies and spins, it pushes the air around it. This makes the ball curve in a big banana shape through the air, right around the defenders and into the back of the net!
A banana-shaped kick! That is so silly and cool! What about keeping the ball in the air? My friend told me they can bounce it forever without it ever touching the grass.
Yes! That is a super fun trick called juggling. Players use their feet, their knees, their chest, and even their heads to tap the ball up and down. Professional players have so much control that they can juggle a football over one thousand times in a row without letting it drop once!
One thousand times?! Oh my goodness, my legs would turn to jelly! I think my personal record is about... two bounces before it rolls under the couch!
Haha, two bounces is a great start! It takes lots of practice, but once you get the rhythm, it feels like dancing with the ball.
Dancing with the ball, I love that! Okay, Stefany, what is the craziest, most spectacular trick in the whole football playbook? I've heard people whisper about something called a bicycle kick. Do they ride a real bicycle on the grass?
Haha, no, no real bicycles allowed on the pitch! A bicycle kick is when a player jumps high up into the air, throws their feet up, and flips backward. While they are completely upside down and flying through the air, they kick the ball backward over their own head! It looks like they are pedaling a bicycle upside down in the sky!
Whoa! Upside down in the sky? That sounds a little scary, but also incredibly awesome! Don't they get hurt when they land?
They practice how to fall safely on their backs and shoulders so they don't get hurt. It takes years of practice! And speaking of using your body, players also use their heads! It's called heading the ball, where they use their foreheads to hit the ball.
Ouch! Doesn't that give them a big headache?
It actually doesn't! Professional players practice heading the ball hundreds and hundreds of times. They learn to use the flat, hard part of their forehead, right where your hair starts. It's like using a strong, flat wall to bounce the ball to a teammate or right into the goal!
Ah, using the forehead makes sense! Now, what happens if someone gets tripped or pushed down by the other team? Is there a rule against that?
There definitely is! If a player gets fouled or tripped inside the opponent's penalty box—which is a special marked area near the goal—their team gets a penalty kick. This is a huge moment! They place the ball just twelve yards away from the goal. That's about twelve giant monster steps. Then, it's just the kicker versus the goalkeeper. Nobody else can stand in the way!
Oh boy, that sounds like a lot of pressure! My heart would be beating so fast if I was the goalkeeper!
It is super intense! But sometimes, goals are scored from much, much further away than twelve yards. Did you know the longest goal ever scored in a professional match was from one hundred and fourteen yards away?
One hundred and fourteen yards?! That is longer than a whole football field! How did they kick it that far?
It was actually a goalkeeper who kicked the ball from his very own goal area! He kicked it so high and hard, and with a little help from a strong gust of wind, the ball bounced right over the other goalkeeper's head and went straight into the net! It was a total accident, but it became a world record!
Wow! Talk about a lucky super kick! I bet that goalie was celebrating for a whole week! What do players do when they score a lot of goals in one game?
Well, if a single player scores three goals in one game, it is called a hat trick! It is one of the hardest things to do in football, and when it happens, the crowd goes absolutely wild!
A hat trick? Do they get a magic hat, or does a rabbit pop out of the ball?
Haha, no magic rabbits! But in the old days, if a player scored three goals, fans would actually throw their hats onto the field to show how much they loved it. Some fans still do it today! It's a giant, fun celebration!
That is so cool! I want to wear three hats to a game just so I can throw them all if someone scores a hat trick!
Haha, that would be amazing, Chloe! I'm sure the players would love your three-hat celebration!
Well, Stefany, this has been absolutely mind-blowing! Football is so much more than just running around. It's about speed, science, and doing incredible tricks!
It really is, Chloe. Thank you so much for having me on Kid-Cast. To all the kids listening: grab a ball, go outside, and have fun practicing your own tricks! You might just surprise yourself!
Yes! Go try some gentle juggling or see how many giant steps twelve yards is! Thank you so much, Stefany, and thank you, our awesome super listeners, for tuning in to Kid-Cast! We will see you next time for more fun adventures. Bye-bye!
Bye, everyone! Keep kicking!
