The Lost Seedling Search at Sunrise
Chapter 1: The Empty Pot
Flufalo stepped into the nursery just as the first golden rays of sunrise painted the meadow in soft amber light. The dewy grass soaked the edges of their wooden clogs as they walked the familiar path to the community garden, their small watering can charm clinking gently against their apron pocket. They had come early, as always, to check on the special moonflower seedling they'd been nurturing for weeks—a gift they planned to give their dear friend Star.
But when Flufalo reached the corner shelf where the terracotta pot should have been, their gentle dark eyes widened. The space was empty. They carefully checked each shelf, their lavender and pearl-white feathers fluttering with concern as they moved from spot to spot. Perhaps they'd simply misremembered its location. But no—the small wooden marker with Star's name carved into it lay on the ground beside the empty shelf, as if the pot had been lifted away in haste.
Flufalo's paws trembled slightly as they picked up the marker. This seedling had been more than just a plant—it represented weeks of patient care, early mornings of gentle watering, and the joy of watching something precious grow. Just then, they noticed something unusual: a trail of scattered soil led from the shelf toward the meadow path, disappearing into the wildflower patches beyond.
