Star Builds a Bridge for the Lost Princess
The Cry from Across the Ravine
Star hummed as she skipped along the eastern edge of Troll Valley, her rainbow hair bouncing with each step. Her tool belt jingled with miniature hammers and rulers. She was searching for interesting rocks—the sparkly kind that made the best decorations.
"Help! Someone, please help!"
Star's pointed ears perked up. She raced toward the voice and gasped. There, across the Crystal Ravine, stood Princess Luminara. The fairy princess's silver-blue wings trembled as she peered down at the rushing river far below. The crystal walls sparkled all around her.
"Princess! What happened?" Star called.
"I flew too close to the crystals," Luminara said, her voice shaking. "They disrupted my magic. I can't fly anymore! The old bridge collapsed last winter, and I'm trapped!"
Star adjusted her yellow hard hat and studied the gap. It was wide—very wide. She pulled out her toy ruler, measuring with her eyes the way she'd learned at Troll Academy. Her purple-and-blue eyes sparkled with determination.
"Don't worry! I'll build you a bridge!" Star announced.
Then she looked around. Her heart sank. No wood. No rope. Just rocks and pebbles scattered everywhere.
And the sun was setting fast.
