Robots That Learn Like You
Robots That Learn Like You
Hi everyone! Welcome to Kids Science Radio! I am Chloe, and today we have a super cool guest, Stefany, to talk about robots and computer brains!
Hi Chloe! Hi kids! Yes, we are talking about Artificial Intelligence, or AI! It is like a computer brain that learns just like you do!
Wait, how can a computer learn? Does it go to school?
Not quite! Think about learning to ride a bike. You wobble and fall, but you try again and get better. AI learns by making mistakes and practicing too!
Oh, so it does not get everything right on the first try! That makes me feel better about my homework!
Exactly! To teach an AI to recognize a cat, we show it thousands of pictures of cats and dogs until it learns the difference.
Oh! Is that how my mom's phone knows her face to unlock itself?
Yes! That is AI at work. It can also listen to your voice and turn your spoken words into text on a screen!
Wow! My brother plays video games. Does the computer player use AI to play against him?
It sure does! AI decides what moves to make next. It can even play chess and beat world champions because it can calculate millions of moves in a blink!
Millions of moves? That is super fast! But can AI help people in real life too?
Oh, absolutely! AI helps doctors look at X-ray pictures of bones to find if anything is hurt by comparing them to thousands of other pictures.
That is amazing! So, does the AI feel happy when it helps a doctor or wins a game?
Actually, no. AI does not have feelings and cannot think like humans. It only follows instructions that smart people taught it.
So we are still the real bosses! And scientists are teaching them new things every single day!
That is right! AI gets smarter because we keep teaching it and using it.
Thank you so much for sharing today, Stefany! I learned so much!
You are so welcome, Chloe! Keep exploring, everyone!
Bye-bye, listeners! See you next time on Kids Science Radio!
