London Fox Superpowers

Chloe

Welcome to Wild Wonders, the podcast for little explorers! I'm your host, Chloe, and today we have a super-special guest, Stefany the animal expert! Stefany, tell us, who is our neighborhood superhero of the day?

Stefany

Hi Chloe! I am so excited to be here. Today we are talking about a clever neighbor you might see right outside your window—the amazing London Fox! They have real-life superpowers!

Chloe

No way! Real superpowers? Like a comic book hero? What is their first one?

Stefany

Well, let's start with their ears. A fox's ears can rotate completely independently! That means one ear can point left while the other points right. It helps them hear sounds all around them at the very same time!

Chloe

Oh, wow! I tried to wiggle my ears, but they definitely do not do that. What about when it gets dark outside?

Stefany

That is when their super night vision kicks in! A fox can see six times better in the dark than we can. It helps them hunt and run around safely when we are fast asleep.

Chloe

Six times better? That is like having built-in night-goggles! Do they have a super-powered nose to match?

Stefany

They absolutely do! A fox's sense of smell is four hundred times stronger than ours! They can easily sniff out a snack buried deep under the cold snow or hidden behind a garden bush.

Chloe

Four hundred times! I can barely find my shoes in my bedroom. Now, I heard they are also incredible acrobats. Is that true?

Stefany

Oh, yes! A fox can jump five feet high—that is as tall as a grown-up! And they can leap fifteen feet long. They use this for a special trick called mousing where they listen for tiny rustles, leap high into the air, and pounce right down on their target!

Chloe

Boing! That sounds like a giant trampoline jump! But how do they land without making a peep?

Stefany

That is thanks to their amazing paws! They have special pads on their feet that act like built-in sneakers. They help them grip slippery wet streets and run totally silently through the city. Plus, they have super-sensitive whiskers on their snout that can feel tiny vibrations in the air!

Chloe

Wow, so they can feel the air moving! What about their big, fluffy tail? Is it just for looks?

Stefany

Not at all! That tail is called a brush. It helps them balance when they run super fast—up to thirty-one miles per hour! They also wave it to talk to other foxes, and in the freezing winter, they wrap it around their nose like a cozy, warm blanket.

Chloe

A built-in blanket and a communication flag! That is genius. Do they make any sounds to talk, too?

Stefany

They sure do! Foxes make over forty different sounds. They bark, they scream, and they even make cute little whimpering noises to chat with their families.

Chloe

Forty different sounds! That is a lot of chatter. Foxes really are the ultimate urban superheroes. Thank you so much for sharing these awesome secrets, status, Stefany!

Stefany

You are so welcome, Chloe! Next time you are outside, keep your eyes open for our furry, super-powered friends!

Chloe

You got it! That is all for today, explorers. Keep wondering, keep exploring, and we will see you next time on Wild Wonders! Bye!
